Dr Ben O'Mara
Dr Ben O’Mara conducts research into health communication, cultural and linguistic diversity and information technology for Swinburne University.
He aims to make health information easy to understand, and evidence-based, as is demonstrated through his work at Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Australia, where he develops resources for health workers, people living with MND and those supporting them in the community.
Ben’s research has involved working with people from Vietnamese, Sudanese and Samoan communities in Victoria, Australia, to establish what may work best when communicating on health using social media, smartphones, radio, television and other information technology.
Ben also researches alcohol and other drugs policy, with a focus on opioid painkillers, and writes often for The Guardian, Canberra Times and other news and literary publications.
Ben will participate in our July impact2021 webinar, Why telehealth must better support refugees and migrants in Australia - and how.
